Maveric UAS

Pretty amazing... carbon fiber, foldable wing, rolls up and fits in a 6-inch tube.  "Call for quote" pricing!  Check out their video section, it's rather impressive.  Sorry for the tiny pics, it's a screencap from their website.  I hope they put some better resolution photos on, especially of the folding wing mechanism.

Things I'd like to try: The NutBall

It's what you get when you combine a Pizza Box Flyer with a Smart Dart, the best of both. It's round and it flies like crazy, hence the name.

It can be setup for flying from mild to wild. It's an easy quick build, so any repairs are a breeze. There's no nose or tail to break off and the wing can't fold. As a trainer it can fly slower than slow, super stable and no bad habits. Turn up the volumn for advanced flying or silly fun. It flies almost as if has ailerons......rolls, loops, snaps and spins both way, flies inverted (but, not it's forte unless you drop the dihedral), prop hanges like a full blown 3D machine and has no pitch problems at high speed.

The REVERT concept wing was inspired by the "Kline-Fogelman Airfoiled Flying Wing...."  Fan fold foam sliced up on Friday night in 20 minutes, electronics installed in 10 minutes Saturday morning, and test flown.

Superfly Build Log

Here's how I built my SuperFly. I am a total beginner -- I've got a DX6i radio, and have been practicing on FMS and RC DeskPilot. I've got pieces coming from HobbyZone (receiver), SuperFly (the actual plane), and HobbyKing (servos, batteries, ESC).

7/2/2010
  • Received plane kit along with tube of Welder's Glue. I emailed SuperFlyRC and they arranged to combine shipping. Otherwise, their online shop bumps ground shipping from $10 to $20. Still waiting for HK and HZ shipments to arrive.
  • Got low-temp hot glue gun from Amazon. Ordering wiring-quality soldering iron.
Questions
  • do I need battery connectors? have to see how the HK stuff arrives.
  • is it normal to solder the motor to the ESC?
Suggestions for SuperFlyRC
  • have a mailing list for superfly owners.
  • sell an "everything you need" kit that includes batteries, connectors, etc. You can have a high-end and low-end version of this kit.
  • List detail for "complete hardware"

Superfly Compendium

Some Build Notes:
  • target weight: 9-11oz is good for a stock build.
  • CG: 9.5 inches +/-.25 inch
  • throw: "1.5" up/down, 1" or so or maybe even less for beginners and work it back up as needed."

    Planes I'd Like to Try: "Baby Bam Bam" $1.00 Flying Bat Plane

    Nice plane build by CaptainRandy at RCGroups using a Dollar Tree bat as the body and old coroplast signage for the wings.








    'The bat measures 24 1/4" long X 2" diameter, and comes in Red or Yellow. The wing span of the plane is 38". I have just completed building this little beauty, and it flies like a dream. It can be built as a rudder/elevator only plane with some dihedral, or with full house controls, ailerons, rudder, elevator, and of course throttle. The amount of dihedral is easily changed by bending the wire rods used to attach the wing to the fuse. I use Coroplast sign material for the wings and tail feathers (horizontal & vertical stabilizers & elevator & rudder). The only glue used is hot glue for the attachment of the vertical & horizontal stabilizers and attaching the aileron servos to the top side of the wings. The rudder and elevator servos are attached with the screws provided with your servos.'
